This summer has flown by for us here at Tippecanoe River Run. We have been busy at the campground celebrating all of the major holidays that summer brings along and enjoying the amazing weather while it lasts.

Hence, why we have not blogged in awhile. Making time to blog during high camping season is difficult.

This summer we managed to complete some additional updates to the campground.

Small updates were made to the shower house. With a new paint scheme we feel it looks more welcoming. The inclusion of new hanging hooks, and decor has provided a more welcoming vibe.

The playground installation was completed just before Memorial Day.  It has been wonderful to watch so many children enjoying it. The curly slide is a huge hit with all ages. There is still more work to do to the area, such as bedding and edging. For now we are happy with the progress. A good friend recently said “Rome wasn’t built in a day!”

We also made additional upgrades to the electrical system throughout the campground, which allow us to better serve our guests.

New signs were placed at the campground & along the road to direct traffic. We really like our Firewood & Eggs for sale sign near the entrance.

This summer we have noticed an increase in overnight campers thanks to our new google, yelp and hip camp listings. Meeting new campers from all over the United States has been a welcomed experience. We’ve had bikers off the Nickle Plate Trail, guests from the Trail of Courage, Boy Scouts, and many through travelers. Thank you everyone for welcoming them to our little slice of heaven.

This past weekend we enjoyed a “Painting party” and that was a huge hit! We will certainly be offering something similar again in the future.

Coming up this October are the Annual Family Fun Night co-hosted with the Fulton County Public Library. We plan on having a bonfire, singing, reading and slime making. Snacks included. It is always a lot of fun for the children..

Trick or Treating is also approaching fast, and is scheduled for October 20th. We are currently full for trailer sites, but we still have a handful of tent spaces available. Book soon if you would like one. Last year we had over 80 little goblins and ghouls visit! 

We are excited to welcome fall, as this is our personal favorite time of the year for fires & friends. We finished decorating around the campground, and it is looking great!

Tippecanoe River Run

If you have been following us on Facebook, you know that we have purchased a playground set for the campground. This has been a goal of ours since the purchase of the campground a few years ago. Several family campers have asked us if and when we would be installing a playground, but we had never found the right set. Until, we saw this one at auction. We are thrilled that we found it, and  to finally meet that need for our young campers.

They playground is currently being given a brand new paint scheme, and we hope you will like the natural colors.

It should be installed by the end of April. Please be patient with us through the installation process.

You will see some fresh dirt that has been laid throughout the campground, we are trying to build up a few areas and will be planting some grass seed. Please help us keep those areas undisturbed.

As a reminder, Opening Day is coming up on April 14th. The gates will open at 10 am. We are excited to announce that we have another full year, and are no longer accepting seasonal renters! We think we have a great group of campers here.

Again, Bob & Lori Gibson will continue to act as campground hosts. They are located on site #38. Their help is greatly appreciated in ensuring the campground is operating smoothly, and they do such a wonderful job.

Wondering what is new at Tippecanoe River Run? What do we do all winter while we are “Closed?”

You would think that being a campground we would have the winter off while we are closed. However, that is far from the truth. While we are still not as busy. we do find ourselves working behind the scenes.

This off season we managed to score a few loads of river rock and we are excited to make a designated boat ramp out of it for boaters. No more walking up the bank with muddy feet.

We’ve also been working on some updates to the bath houses. It is not completed, but our vision is coming together and we hope to have it refinished for the 2018 season. What would you like to see in the bathhouses?

Marketing has been taking up a large portion of our time this off season. We recently listed our information on google maps. In addition, Sarah has become a member of the Fulton County Tourism Board.

Then, if we are really out of things to do,  there is always firewood to split.

We’ve been busy, but we are so blessed to live this life.

Here at TRR, it has been hot and humid! We’ve had an extremely wet summer, therefore the water table is very high. Our riverfront sites have been flooded. The good news is it is going down, finally.

We’ve had a lot of fun so far. For Independence day we had a celebration with fellow campers. Everyone pulled together to make the event a success. We enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, carry in treats,  games and some friendly competition. We just love seeing everyone together having a great time.

Some updates have been taking place around the grounds as well. Some of you may notice the women’s restrooms have been painted. We hope to have the men’s painted soon. A fresh coat of paint sure makes a big difference!

Some things coming up soon are Fulton fun days, the trail of courage and trick-or-treating at the campground. Stay tuned!

Bob & Lori, our Camp hosts. Site #38

Opening day is right around the corner.  We have been working hard in preparation for everyone’s arrival.  Seasonal campers should have received an updated letter in their mail  by this weekend.

Eric has completed the installation of the campground sign. We are thrilled with it, and have received a lot of compliments. Thank you everyone for your kind words. Landscaping that area is a summer project that we are hoping complete. You will notice two smaller signs, and a new American flag have been installed.

Another addition is the lending library. Reading is so important to us and our children. We decided to extend it into the campground as well. Jim, my father custom made this for us so be sure to thank him if you see him around.  It is gorgeous, and we are so happy to offer this to our campers. A special thanks to the Fulton County Public Library, Sharon Foust and Susan Goble for donating several books. It is nearly full! Please, stop by and enjoy a book at your leisure.

The electrician has been out there nearly everyday for weeks. He has installed new electrical boxes and meters on nearly every site. It looks great. Currently the river area is flooded up to the primitive sites. This is hindering our efforts of installing new electrical outlets to that area. The guys have spent the last two days trenching and laying power lines underground. That will be a huge benefit to have underground power lines.

Most of the trees we cut down have been cut up and split, so again firewood will be available for sale on site this year. What else would you guys like to see available for sale on site?

This spring like weather has us itching to get out and start up on some projects around the campground. Eric has been out cutting wood every chance he gets in an effort to clean up the mess from all the dead ash trees that were removed last fall. It is a task that is taking quite some time for us to complete. Slow and steady. Each week he gets a little more and more done. We will have plenty of firewood available for sale for many years to come.

Our sign is coming along wonderfully, and we are so excited to see it in person this March. They have started adding color to it. I’m amazed at the craftsmanship thus far.

Opening day is coming up on April 15th!

This winter we have been working with Ridge Top Fence Company from Wyoming. They are handcrafting us an entryway sign. It will feature shaved spruce logs, with our logo engraved in a wooden slab. When we envision how we want to portray the campground we think about nature. This piece will provide a rustic and natural appeal to the entrance. Keep following for more photos as they begin to transform this into something special.

Old man winter has hit the Rochester area hard over the last week. The other morning I looked at the thermometer and it said -19 degrees. Talk about cold! I took the opportunity to head out to the campground and see what nature had to offer. Of course, she did not disappoint. There were bunny and deer tracks everywhere. Along with little bitty icicles and picnic tables filled with snow. Peaceful & full of crisp air. I did not stick around too long though, I despise the cold.

This past October we hosted our first ever “Family Camp Night” in conjunction with the Fulton County Public Library and Sallies by the Shore. We were excited to open up our grounds for local children and families.. Our mission is to share nature with today’s youth. When Nancy, at the library approached us with the idea for a family camp night, we of course said yes! What better way to be family friendly than to open up a free night full of fun for everyone? We met up for an evening filled with reading, corn hole, songs and of course delicious ice cream. It was so generous of Sallies to provide ice cream to everyone. We had over 50 people in attendance!
